Quantum computer
In 2025, Euskadi will host the System Two, the world's most powerful IBM quantum computer
IBM will install the IBM Quantum System Two in Euskadi, the most powerful networked quantum computer in the world. Its installation and commissioning will take place during the last quarter of 2025 at the IBM-Euskadi Quantum Computational Center, located in the new Ikerbasque building in Donostia.
Powered by an IBM Quantum Heron, the company’s most advanced quantum processor to date, it has the capacity to expand to multiple processors in the future. IBM Heron is capable of running utility-scale algorithms beyond the capabilities of classical brute-force simulation methods, including using Qiskit software to accurately execute certain types of quantum circuits with up to 5,000 two-qubit gate operations.

Strategic partnership
The collaboration agreement between the Basque Government and IBM for the promotion of Quantum Technologies was signed in 2023.
This strategic partnership aims to position the Basque Country as a key player in the global field of Quantum Technologies, leveraging IBM’s leading-edge expertise in this emerging field.
The main objectives of the agreement are to advance quantum research and development, foster innovation, and build a robust ecosystem for quantum computing in the region. This agreement not only represents a commitment to scientific and technological progress but also seeks to establish a foundation for future economic growth by integrating Quantum Technologies into local industry and academia.
